Overview of Activities for Year 2024

It is with great pleasure that I present the President’s Report for the year 2024. This year has been one of meaningful engagement, impactful collaboration, and steady progress for Malaysian Economic Association (MEA), as we continued to pursue our mission of promoting informed economic discourse and strengthening ties among practitioners, policymakers, and academicians in Malaysia.

Throughout 2024, MEA organised a range of high-impact activities aimed at fostering dialogue, advancing research, and promoting economic literacy. Below are key highlights from the year:

  • 25 March: Hosted the Bank Negara Malaysia Governor’s Address on the Malaysian Economy, followed by a panel discussion held at AICB.
  • 3 May: Fundraising Dinner titled “An Evening with YB Dato’ Seri Rafizi Ramli” raised RM78,136.
  • 14 June: 33rd Yayasan MEA AGM & 61st MEA AGM at Universiti Malaya, including Exco election for 2024–2026 term.
  • 2 July: 3rd Roundtable with AMRO on “Paving the Way for Malaysia’s Next Economic Leap.”
  • 24 September: MJES Special Issue launch in honour of the late Dr. Cheong Kee Cheok.
  • 27 September: MEA Webinar on Causal Policy Evaluation by Dr. Soon Jan Jan.
  • 20 November: MEA Webinar on Fuel Subsidy Reform moderated by Dr. Ravindran Navaratnam.
  • 2–3 October: National Financial Literacy Symposium 2024 with BNM, EPF & AKPK at Sasana Kijang.
  • 21 October: Post-Budget Debate 2025 with keynote by Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and expert panel discussion.

  • Promote interdisciplinary and cross-sector partnerships among academia, government, and industry.
  • Foster closer ties with regional and international economic associations.
5. Upholding Professional Standards and Ethics
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct among members.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical guidelines in all economic research and practices.
