15th Convention of the Malaysian Economic
Association

The 15th Convention of the Malaysian Economic Association will be held on July 22-23, 2003 at the Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This Convention is one major activity of the Association, where it will provide a professional forum for discussing current issues thereby problems and promoting a better understanding of the Malaysian economy.
This year's theme is on "The Malaysian Economy at Crossroads: Challenges and Opportunities" (current structural changes of various sectors). The chosen theme is very apt as the world is witnessing the struggle of the three major economies, namely, United States, Japan and Germany. Developments in the major economies would have repercussions on the Malaysian economy. The Malaysian economy now calls for a new framework for international financial economic order that is conducive to individual economic growth and economic integration with the world and other Asian economies. The convention will discuss on the following sub-themes:

2. Financial and Capital Markets
3. Alternative Growth /Development Models/Drivers
4. New Economic Philosophies
5. Issues in Globalization
6. Governance
The program will consist of invited and contributed papers from all members and friends. We invite the submission of papers to be presented at this MEA15 Convention. Authors are encouraged to submit papers related to the Malaysian economy or any applied research relating to the sub-themes. The convention is open to all economists and corporate members, including those who are not currently members of the Malaysian Economic Association.
To have your paper considered for a contributed session, please submit a completed paper with an abstract. Each submission of a completed paper should be accompanied by a page detailing the title, author(s) names, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses of the contributor(s) as well as his/her website address (if any). The second page should repeat the title and include the abstract of not more than 300 words.
Abstracts are due by 15 April, 2003. Authors will be notified regarding acceptance or rejection by early 15 May, 2003. The final version of accepted papers should be submitted by 30 May, 2003.
Author(s) whose papers are accepted for presentation at the Convention need to submit their papers in three hardcopies and an electronic version (preferably in MS Word) to MEA 15 Convention.
