INSTRUCTIONS TO PAPER CONTRIBUTORS_________________________________
1.

Manuscripts must be in English and should not exceed 30 pages including diagrams, figures, tables, etc. An abstract not exceeding 200 words, and up to five key words and JEL classifications (three-digit codes) should be included.
2.

A copy of the manuscript for publication in the Journal should be sent to:

         University of Malaya
         50603 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The electronic version of the manuscript, preferably typewritten in Word format, should also be submitted.

A manuscript submitted to the Journal will be taken to imply that it represents an original unpublished work, not under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts submitted will be refereed. The contents of the manuscripts shall be the sole responsibility of the authors and publication does not imply the concurrence of the Editorial Board or the publishers. The Editor does not accept responsibility for damage or loss of manuscripts submitted.

Manuscripts should be typewritten with double spacing throughout on one side of the paper only. A manuscript should be divided into sections with short titles or subtitles. All pages should be numbered consecutively.

The first page of the manuscript should contain: (i) the title and (ii) the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s). A footnote on the same sheet should give the name and present address of the author to whom possible correspondence would be addressed.

Acknowledgements and information on grants received should also be given in a footnote on the first page of the manuscript, which should not be included in the consecutive numbering of footnotes.

Important formulae (displayed) should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript as (1), (2), etc. on the right-hand side of the page. Where the derivation of the formulae has been abbreviated, it is of great help to referees if the full derivation can be presented on a separate sheet (not to be published).

 Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and be numbered consecutively through the text with superscript arabic numerals.

References should be typed on separate sheets after the text, and should include only the most relevant papers. In the text, references to publication should appear as follows: … Brown (1969) … or … Jones (1969: 102) … or (Brown and Jones 1972) … The author should make sure that there is a strict ‘one-to-one correspondence’ between the names (years) in the text and those on the list. The complete references should be listed alphabetically after the text as:

For monographs
Oshima, H.T. 1987. Economic Growth in Monsoon Asia: A Comparative Survey.    Tokyo: Tokyo University Press.

For contributions to collective works
Wagner, N. 1990.  European investment in ASEAN.  In Foreign Direct Investment

Note that journal and book titles should not be abbreviated.
10.
Illustrations (including graphs and diagrams) will be scanned from originals supplied by the author. They should not be inserted in the text but supplied separately, and must be computer output from a high quality laser printer. All illustrations must be at least half A4 paper size. All illustrations should be referred to as figures and should be numbered consecutively in the text in arabic numerals. Illustrations of insufficient quality which have to be redrawn by the publisher will be charged to the author.
11. Tables should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals headed with short titles and should be typed on separate sheets.
12. Any manuscript which does not conform to the above instructions may be returned for necessary revision before publication.
