2007 POST-BUDGET PANEL DISCUSSION

As in previous years, in September, the Minister of Finance will have the Nation’s undivided attention. He will present the Budget on 1 September, 2006. His Budget is expected to address the issues of sustaining rapid economic recovery and growth, maintaining price, exchange rate and fiscal stability as well as continuing with the restructuring of the financial and corporate sectors.
In the run-up to the Budget, many ideas have been proferred on these issues. As the Year 2007 Budget takes up these issues, the approach, strategy and rationale will need careful examination. This, the Post-Budget Panel Discussion will provide, being, as it is, the occasion on which the Secretary-General to the Treasury will clarify and explain the Budget proposals. The discussion will be tightly focused on key issues, raised by a panel of notable experts in their respective fields. This year, the Discussion Panel will be headed by Tan Sri Izuddin bin Dali, Secretary-General to the Treasury. The Panel Members are: Datuk Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, Executive Director, National Implementation Directorate, Prime Minister Department and Dr. Veerinderjeet Singh, Managing Director, VS On Tax Sdn Bhd.
The Persatuan’s Post-Budget Panel Discussion has proved to be the most direct route to a clear understanding of the Government’s economic principles, its ranking of priorities and its expectations for the year to come.
